One of the very first team members to join the Powerhouse fam, Rafael has played a tremendous role in both the clients and agency’s success to date.

Here’s 11 things you may, or may not have known about Rafael Destro – SEM Specialist.

What made you want to work with us?

I really liked the agency’s approach to specialise exclusively in branding and growth as a strategy. It seemed a good place to develop my skills and acquire professional experience in New Zealand as a digital marketer. Besides, the agency is brand new and is growing fast, and the people are young and vibrant, which makes the working environment fun and enjoyable.

Describe your career journey, and how it got you here.

I’m from Brazil, and after working for five years as a Petroleum Geologist in my country, I decided to make a professional and personal shift in my life. After completing a tour of Silicon Valley in California in April 2017, I realized how significant the importance of Digital Marketing is nowadays. After the visit, I decided to study and live in New Zealand and study Digital Marketing. Now, I’m living in Auckland and working as a Digital Strategist at Powerhouse Agency.

Who’s your biggest inspiration in life currently?

My biggest inspiration in life are my parents. Their lives were tough during youth, they had to study and work hard during turbulent and repressing times in Brazil. They also became parents when they were young, and it’s not easy to raise children in a problematic country such as Brazil. Despite all difficulties, they managed to give the best education for me and for my sister while reaching success in their professional careers, and today we all have a good quality of life, good health, skills, and financial conditions to pursue our dreams.

Would you class yourself as a thinker or doer? Why?

I consider myself a doer at the moment, with the intention of becoming a thinker in the future. I have a lot of things to learn, and I believe I must sow first to reap later. To be a thinker, I must first learn how to do things which deliver good results. After learning the practical stuff, I’ll be able to better understand the strategies behind the tactics and become a thinker with a pragmatic approach.

What do you consider your greatest achievement to date and why?

My greatest achievement was the personal and professional shift I made in my life. I worked for 5 years as a petroleum geologist in Brazil, which was a wealthy job for my home country’s standards. But I was unsatisfied with my life and my country in general, so I quit my job, left my country and moved to a new place to start a new professional life. You must have courage and willpower to pursue such a big change like that, and the challenge is being successful so far, which I consider my biggest achievement.

What is the single most important achievement on your bucket list? Why?

I love living in such a beautiful, developed, and safe country like New Zealand, and I believe that a residency here will provide me more stability and peace of mind to achieve my full potential for both the personal and professional aspects of my life.

Biggest highlight of your career?

Getting a job in the industry that I wanted – Digital Marketing, in such a beautiful country.

What are you best known for?

Chicken…Beans…Rice! And my consistent perseverance towards obtaining the best chair in the office 😛

Although, I believe other people who know me can better answer this question 😀

What do you know is true that no one else agrees on?

I believe that our planet Earth is the most beautiful thing in the Universe. Our planet is a living being just like you and me, and we are a part of it, but people don’t know or realise how precious and amazing it is. Instead, people see the Earth as a disposable source of raw material, created to exclusively satisfy the human demands, and that other similar planets are our salvation. But I know that we will not reach other planets, and humanity should find solutions within our planet to deal with the human population’s growth.
